The Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry invites those interested in a full-time Assistant Professor faculty position to submit a CV, and a letter of intent and inquiry to the School.

Position Responsibilities

Didactic responsibilities include lectures, laboratory teaching, and the administrative responsibilities that accompany these duties.

  • Courses may include core curricular courses: Basic sciences courses such as Systemic Biomedical Sciences, and Applied Pharmacology or clinical sciences courses such as Ocular Diseases and Principles and Practice of Primary Care Optometry procedures laboratories.
  • Other courses may include elective courses
  • Clinical intern supervision: Clinical intern supervision in the Primary Care Service
  • Service to the Institution duties include being member of various committees as appointed by the Deans.
  • Service to the community as consultants, volunteer work or through others means.
  • Time will be allotted to develop research and scholarly activities.

The interested candidates must hold a Doctor of Optometry degree, Doctor of Medicine degree, or equivalent level health care degree. OD must have National Board of Examiners in Optometry certification, and be eligible for a Puerto Rico certified optometry license. Other health care degrees must have or be eligible for licensure in their professional practice in Puerto Rico. Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed additional degrees such as an accredited residency, master’s degree or PhD, and have recent teaching experience.
